    When I use gradient tool to brighten only the dark side of a person, it brightens the whole picture. What am I doing wrong? I did everything like in the video. Thanks.

    i dont know why, but whenever i try to make a gradient on a layer mask, it doesnt work :S

    why not just Level the your shadows down and your highlights up a little and play with brightness contrast?

    this effect looks like theirs a Halo on the far right ladys head. I guess its just preference.
